Update Assets

Last updated 11 months ago

When a user syncs the library by pressing the Sync Core Previews button on the Asset browser title bar, the add-on checks if all assets are up to date. All preview assets that have updates will automatically be downloaded during the sync together with any new assets. If a user has downloaded an original asset and the add-on detects it has an update two scenarios can happen depending on the settings you have chosen for asset updates in the Asset Browser Settings

Why we let the user choose

In most cases when you drag and drop an asset from the asset browser to your scene a copy is made of that asset that is in the asset browser. Meaning if you would delete the asset from the asset browser the asset in your scene will still be available as its not linked and even if its linked by setting the import method to linked the asset will be available after making it local. However we think its still important that users have control over if they want to upgrade an asset or not. Therefor we let the user choose if they want to manually update or automatically update assets.

Difference between Automatic and manual update

If "Download asset updates on sync" is set to Automatic update. All Original assets that have updates will be re-downloaded and replaced with their updated version.

If "Download asset updates on sync" is set to Manual update all original assets that have an update will be shown in a list that you can view by pressing the Asset Updates button. This button will appear only when assets have been found that have on update. On each sync this list gets cleared and rebuild if updates are found. The list will show the name of the asset, its size and a selection box To download the assets: Select the assets you want to update and press the "Update Selected" button a progress bar will appear and the updated asset will be removed from the list.
